well, good news for johnpaul. he is going into 2nd grade. the teacher said that he went from a level 4 dra reader in March to a level 14dra now in May. i am happy with his progress. She says that is about entrance level 1st grade but obviously a giant improvement for him and besides he is passing so i can't complain.
she asked if anything has changed and the only thing i can say is that baseball and scouting have been the only new things since April. so IMO an entire year of tutoring did nothing compared to how baseball and scouting have helped him to focus. i think its a boy thing. boys are not going to sit down and just learn at a desk as easily as girls... the activity of baseball helped more than a whole year of tutoring.
I love his artwork. I have been really encouraging it. He gets new crayons and markers frequently.
In the above picture you can see that he does still write things backward like the word zoo, but he has many details, like the 3 colors in the macaw and the stripes on the tiger. The teacher says his work is much more detailed than the rest of the class. I think he sees images in his brain detailed but being only 6 he is limited in his ability to portray what he sees in his head. I can't wait to see his artwork when he grows up.
interesting.
